Gerald saga: Part 3
The video work Autos & Wirtschaft & Recht 2 marks the final chapter of the Gerald saga. After having himself and his artworks acquired by a renowned curator, artist Nicklas Hoffmann is guaranteed success, women, money, fame, fancy cars, and plenty of bling-bling. Yet, just as he finishes work on his latest video piece, he realizes that things aren't quite as great as he had imagined. How does a white male artist from the West achieve success in 2019?
Autos & Wirtschaft & Recht 2 questions whether one should create art for oneself or for the art market. It does so with the help of humor – primarily through references to characters from earlier installments of the Gerald saga and observations regarding major art exhibitions. The film incorporates a diverse mix of elements from music videos, animation, live performance, musicals, social commentary, and documentary.
